The stick is the only thing players are allowed to use to advance the puck. The stick can be at most 350mm (~13.8in) long and can only be held in one hand. The stick often has a hook at the end, curved towards the player. The size of the hook on the stick depends on the player's preference (although the hook may not encompass more than half of the pucks circumferance). The other end of the stick is shaped to make it easy and comfortable to hold. The front and back edges of the stick are beveled to make it easier to flick the puck.
Right-handed and left-handed sticks are mirror images of each other and while they look very similar, there are important features that make them suitable for either righties or lefties. The key difference is the angle of the front/back bevels; the narrow side of the stick should be facing up when the stick is laid flat.
