This drill is a simple and quick drill that can be done individually or with several people. The purpose is to practice the deke and fade maneuvers. The purpose of this drill is to get many repetitions of the deke and fade moves to become extremely comfortable with the movement, making it easy to use during games.
Green arrows show the path the puck should follow as the player swims with it.

Place a weight, puck, or any other marker on the bottom of the pool that remains stationary throughout the drill.
The player will start with a puck, facing directly at the marker.
Swim towards the marker, imagining that the marker is an opponent's stick.
The player will then either deke the marker or do a fade maneuver around it.
If the player wishes, they can line up several markers 2-3 meters apart and deke each one in a single dive.
If there are several people present, a player can set up in place of the marker and more actively try to stop the deke or fade.

DEKE/FADE DRILL
PLACE A MARKER (SUCH AS A WEIGHT) ON THE BOTTOM OF THE POOL
SET UP FACING THIS MARKER WITH A PUCK
SWIM TOWARDS THE MARKER AND DEKE OR FADE AROUND THE MARKER AS IF IT WERE AN OPPONENT'S STICK
PRACTICE THIS MANY TIMES UNTIL THE MOTION FEELS FLUID AND EASY, THEN PRACTICE ON A PLAYER WHO WILL TRY TO GRAB THE PUCK
